Gahu: An Introduction to Ewe Music from Ghana

Description: Participants will receive an introduction to the drum language of the Ewe people and use it to create the beginning of ‘Gahu’, a classic piece of West African Music. We will study the structure of the music, some of the associated movements, the lead drum parts, and some of the cultural context of the piece. You will be able to use this in your classroom.

Time: 1:30-3:30pm (Central Standard Time, all three days: Please be aware of your time zone in order to tune in on time)
Maximum Participants: 25
Participant Materials: A tubano, a conga drum, or similar hand drum. A cowbell. A pair of sticks. An external sound source (a phone, speaker, or computer) is recommended to play sound files that will be provided.
