Kpatsa: Drumming for Young People (Ghana)

Description: Participants will each learn by ear the five instrumental parts to kpatsa. Participants will receive recordings of the individual parts prior to the workshop, so that they may use those to play along and practice. In addition to learning the instrumental parts of the piece, participants will also learn a kpatsa song

Time: 10:00am-12:00pm, continued 1:00-3:00pm Central Standard Time (Be aware of your time zone to tune in on time)
Maximum Participants: 15
Participant Materials: Any African bell (eg. gankogui, toke/adawura, clave), a rattle (preferably an enmeshed gourd rattle eg. shekere, axhatse, akasha, trowa), a pair of drum sticks, 2 hand drums (high and low) eg kpanlogo, tubano (10”, 14”) or Conga (if you don’t have 2 drums, one is ok), a second audio player (computer, phone, etc.) from which to play recorded music
